How to use DemoCamp-units as shelter and message board at the same time

DemoUnits of the camping size have demonstrative power not only when carried in a demonstration, but also when used for demonstrative camping. With Demonstrative camping a squair, street or parc is occupied by a large number of participants that want to stay there for a longer time. Purpose is to attract attention for one's cause by being very much in the way. Messages painted on the covers of the tents explain to the public what the demonstration is about. The tents should also give enough protection to the participants. The DemoUnits camping size have often been used for camping and perform well as such.

Demonstration with tents in Mexico and Libanon

This picture is an example of demonstrative camping. People intended to stay until they were heard. There are also many other examples of demonstrative camping that have had a great impact, notably in Eastern Europe.

DemoUnit used for camping

DemoUnits have some characteristics that make them useful for camping: people can stand straight in it, specially in the cube-type units that are 2.10 meter of height. The sails that cover the frame so not sag in as they get support from the steel cross wires. The bottom square of 2.1 x 2.1 meter2 offers sleeping space for 4 campers.

DemoUnits used for raising awareness

Terre des Hommes in Germany plans to use a number of DemoUnit tents to ask attention for the harsh conditions in which refugees have to live. The message on the sheets of the tents is short, volunteer activist of Terre des Hommes will inform the public that passes by.

Demonstrative tent units can be large

At the C4Real Festival in Culenbour in summer 2006, participants from the Student Workforce created an impressive long tent structure.
They should have used the sheets much more extensive to tell the public what the target of their association is: Sustainability

Any setup possible with DemoUnits for Camping

As long back as in 1992 we made this drawing to show to participants of the Ecotopia Summer Camps the potential of this construction system. In essence the idea of getting shelter for people from DemoUnits with a size you could stand in upright and that could be joined in units came here into being.
